2022 Region Cadet Competition Winners
From the desk of the wing commander, Col Liz Sydow:
Congratulations to the Virginia Wing Cadet Competition Team from Burke Composite Squadron for winning first place overall at the Mid-Atlantic Region Cadet Competition yesterday! Team members included Team Captain, C/Capt Lucas Bottorff and team members C/Capt Samuel Ten, C/SMSgt Robert Kammerer, C/MSgt Ethan Edwards, C/SrA Tyler Webb, and C/A1C Audrey Edwards. Team escorts were Capt Bill McNulty and Capt Sara Demyanovich.
Competition consisted of physical fitness, written exam, uniform inspection, uniform preparation, indoor flag posting, outdoor flag posting, and standard drill (both colors and element). Our team practiced for many hours over the last few months to prepare. It was great to watch them work together throughout the day. I'll post photos in Teams and on my Official Facebook page.
The team took first place in several categories, including:
- Uniform Preparation
- Team Leadership Problem
- Indoor Posting
- Written Exam
Additionally, C/SrA Tyler Webb was recognized for the Best Written Test Score in the entire competition.
The team will represent the Mid-Atlantic Region at the National Cadet Competition, 13-19 July in Dayton, Ohio. They will compete against teams from all eight regions. Categories will include the above, plus sUAS and a service project.
I'd also like to thank the members of Virginia Wing who supported the competition staff: Lt Col Sandra McInturff, Maj Rose Reeder, and C/Maj Ethan Hebner. It takes a lot of volunteers to bring an event like this together and is not an easy task.
Good luck to our team at the National Cadet Competition! We'll all be rooting for you.
