Congratulations to the Burke Composite Squadron cadet competition team for winning third place overall at the National Cadet Competition! Burke's team of 6 cadets and 2 escorts represented Mid-Atlantic Region and Virginia Wing competing against 15 other teams from across CAP and the 8 regions at the competition in Dayton, Ohio, this weekend.

In addition to their overall finish, the team placed in several categories of competition:

  • 1st Place: Written Exam
  • 2nd Place: Outdoor Drill
  • 2nd Place: Indoor Drill
  • 2nd Place: Unmanned Aircraft Systems

C/CMSgt Robert Kammerer was also recognized as earning the highest score in the written exam.

The results reflect the focused efforts of the team members to practice and study in the time leading up to the competition. They completed a service project and prepared an extemporaneous speech, exercised, and prepared uniforms. I am proud of their teamwork and efforts to be prepared for the competition, but also their positive attitudes, teamwork, and commitment. Support from the escorts, their squadron, families, Mid-Atlantic Region, and the Salvation Army (where they met for training) all contributed to their success.

Next year's wing competition is already scheduled for February and we are planning workshops so all squadrons can prepare a team. Watch for opportunities in the fall/winter.

Well done, Burke Composite Squadron!
