WINCHESTER, Va. (May 26, 2024) – Delegate Delores Oates, delegate for Virginia’s 31st district, had an opportunity to fly over her district this past weekend out of Front Royal-Warren County Airport as part of her Civil Air Patrol membership. Captain Samantha Stahl, from the Winchester Composite Squadron, provided the flight to Delegate Oates which included flying over several local landmarks including the Delegate’s residence. It was Delegate Oates’ first flight in a small aircraft. Delegate Oates commented, “I was able to enjoy the beauty of our community this morning from the air thanks to Captain Samantha Stahl and the Winchester Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol. We took off at the Front Royal Warren County Airport and cruised over the 31st District! I must admit I asked about flying lessons! Stay tuned!”

Every member of the Virginia General Assembly is also a member of Civil Air Patrol. The Commonwealth of Virginia actively supports CAP’s emergency services, cadet programs, and aerospace education missions performed and executed by the wing’s 2,000+ members, whose volunteer efforts are valued at around 9 million dollars annually. The Virginia Wing has 21 locations across the state. The cadet program focuses on providing leadership growth and career exploration opportunities to youth members between 12 and 21 years of age. Civil Air Patrol’s aerospace education mission efforts are internal and external, supporting educators and outreach events such as Girls in Aviation Day, STEM activities in schools, and more. The twelve aircraft assigned to the wing also support orientation flights, introducing cadets to aviation and flight instruction, where some obtain their private pilot licenses. Members train to provide emergency response by air and ground to support the state when called upon.
