Passing of Lt Col Van Cleef

It is with deep sorrow to announce that Lt Col Scott Van Cleef, the squadron commander of Roanoke Composite Squadron, passed away yesterday from a heart attack. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Lt Col Van Cleef was a strong advocate for his cadets and seniors, and a friend and mentor. He kept the squadron strong during the pandemic and set the vision and groundwork for long-term success. He was a pilot, sUAS pilot, mission observer, airborne photographer, and mission pilot. He was also very active in the Air Force Association, having served as the Chairman of the Board of the national organization, the President of the Virginia State AFA, and the President of the Roanoke Chapter. He was a retired Air Force brigadier general and a command pilot with over 3,300 hours in the T-37, T-38, F-4D/E, F-5E/F, F-16A/B, C-12 and F-16C/D. He will be missed.

Lt Col John Powers is serving as acting commander during this time.
