Who We Are
Burke Composite Squadron was founded in September 1987 and has grown to be over 100 members strong. Our squadron is composed of dedicated members aged 12 and older. We welcome anyone who is interested in search and rescue, flying in Cessna aircraft, cyber security, and countless other opportunities that Civil Air Patrol has to offer. We are proud of the Burke Composite Squadron's adult and youth members from diverse backgrounds, volunteering together to serve our community, state, and Nation.
The Civil Air Patrol’s Virginia Wing distinguished the Burke Composite Squadron with the 2021 Squadron of Merit Award for its exceptional work in 2020. Each year, the Wing evaluates actions and activities of 22 Virginia Civil Air Patrol squadrons across the state and selects the top squadron for its work in Cadet Programs. The squadron performed exemplarily in the StellarXplorers and CyberPatriot National Competitions, actively engaged cadets through outdoor activities while abiding by COVID-19 safety measures, responded to COVID-19 support missions, and advanced a special project with a microchip containing the names of Civil Air Patrol members and Air Force Association StellarXplorers competitors that will be sent to the moon in 2023.
Meeting Information
We meet in-person on Thursday nights from 6:30-9 pm at Irving Middle School. Please check with us by email or phone if the location is changed. Due to school events, we may be meeting at a different location. In August, the school is not available and we meet at different locations.
