Group Two was out in force for their first big event of summer 2021!

Cadet Colonel Cyrus Rodriguez, a member of the Virginia Wing’s Leesburg Composite Squadron, has earned the highest achievement a Civil Air Patrol cadet can attain, the Gen. Carl A. Spaatz Award.

There was no airplane assigned to this mission.  Under normal circumstances, they would very carefully move ahead.  Instead, today, because the Danville squadron had just completed small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS), aka “drone” training, they are able to receive assistance rapidly.

Congratulations to everyone who promoted or completed professional levels in April!

Very few Civil Air Patrol members ever reach the rank of colonel. Even fewer do so three times – but that’s just what Elizabeth A. Sydow has done as the new commander of CAP's Virginia Wing.

In just the last two months, one Civil Air Patrol (CAP) cadet earned their private pilot's certificate, another is just a few flights away from their certificate, while even more are on the flight path, with one having completed their solo flight and two planning to solo this coming summer. This flight training is provided in addition to regularly scheduled orientation flights open to all cadets.

Marking the first in-person weekly meeting for the Leesburg Composite Squadron since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, cadets and senior members gathered to receive honors, awards, and major milestone promotions earned throughout the past 14 months.

Congratulations to the following cadets for being selected for a Virginia Wing flight scholarship.

We are offering our next installment of Level II and Level III modules in the new CAP education and training program. These classes will take place May 15-16 on Teams.
