It is with deep sorrow to announce that Lt Col Scott Van Cleef, the squadron commander of Roanoke Composite Squadron, passed away yesterday from a heart attack.

Cadet Colonel Cyrus Rodriguez, a member of the Virginia Wing’s Leesburg Composite Squadron, has earned the highest achievement a Civil Air Patrol cadet can attain, the Gen. Carl A. Spaatz Award.
There was no airplane assigned to this mission. Under normal circumstances, they would very carefully move ahead. Instead, today, because the Danville squadron had just completed small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS), aka “drone” training, they are able to receive assistance rapidly.
